Energy infrastructure under attack in Ukraine
Ukraine's energy systems have faced escalating strikes in recent weeks

Throughout the evening, Russian missile and drone strikes have caused blackouts in extensive areas of the capital city, the Ukrainian capital.

Several individuals were hurt while residents in eastern districts were left without electricity and encountered interruptions to water supplies, according to local authorities.

At the same time, a minor was fatally injured in a separate aerial attack in the Zaporizhzhia area in the country's south-east, based on information from regional authorities.

Russian forces has escalated attacks on power infrastructure over the last fortnight, while officials has called for "substantial measures" from international partners to exert influence on Russia.

"What is required is not superficial actions but strong steps - from the United States, the EU and the Group of Seven - in providing air defence systems and implementing penalties," was stated in a public message.

Authorities reported that numerous aerial vehicles and more than 30 missiles attacked energy facilities, characterizing such assaults as "strategic and deliberate" and against "critical infrastructure" as winter approaches.

Government representatives said Moscow was "launching a major assault" and repair crews were working to restore power.

A wave of strikes struck power facilities and apartment buildings in the capital.

Multiple people hurt in the strikes on the capital have been taken to hospital, according to city authorities.

Local officials said the metropolitan region came under significant strikes overnight. A minor lost their life and three other people were wounded.

The assaults come after nights of bombing campaigns in the territory, parts of which are occupied by Moscow's military.

The entire country is on alert for sophisticated projectile assaults, which are more difficult to identify.

National leaders told reporters that Moscow was deliberately attempting to damage the national power system, with attacks already disrupting gas facilities.

Authorities confirmed energy workers and officials were bracing for more assaults.
