The Reason this DNC Has Concealed its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: A Deep Dive.

The action from the DNC to block the release of its own autopsy report on the last presidential race seems remarkable but entirely predictable. Resistant to frank assessments, the Democrats' governing body often functions closer to a communications shop than a political organization devoted to cultivating local power capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Climate That Avoids Dissent

Hesitant to depart from the prevailing attitude demanding unity, the committee has remained within that legacy throughout this past year. Publishing an official autopsy might have shown that party leaders truly desire to foster open debate about the errors which allowed the former president to win re-election. Yet, the leadership is moving forward as if there's nothing to understand following the tragic debacle of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: is this good for winning elections? If the answer is no, it is an unnecessary diversion from what truly matters," a justification reportedly given to justify concealing the document.

Major Failures an Analysis Might Have Addressed

Any valuable post-mortem with any value would not dodge key points of failure. Among them are:

  • Electoral Disengagement: Failing to retain of a significant portion of the electorate who supported the Democratic ticket during the previous election was decisive in the narrowly decided recent race.
  • A Decision to Run: The stubborn choice of the incumbent to seek re-election, alongside a very late exit, has been criticized as denying Democratic voters of a genuine choice.
  • Losing Touch With Core Democratic Voters: During a time of rising costs, the campaign is criticized for bowing to corporate donors' interests without successfully attempting to challenge the effects of big business.
  • The Gaza Factor: The failure to shift a stance regarding a major international conflict allegedly caused losing many voters, notably among young people, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • A Decline in Youth Support: Polling data indicates a significant decline in votes for the candidate among voters aged 18-29.

A History of Evasion

This refusal aligns with a pattern of evading uncomfortable facts. It echoes a dynamic in which virtually every elected Democrat in Congress went along with an incumbent's decision for seeking another term until a poor public debate performance led to a reversal.

Concurrently, overwhelming numbers within the party's base were consistently telling pollsters that they opposed the incumbent to seek re-election.

Financial Issues

A thorough report could investigate matters about financial allocations, such as what sums were directed to insider consultants and ad buyers during an electoral effort which expended a colossal sum during the general election.

The Larger Problem

Fundamentally, the blockage regarding the analysis highlights a submission toward the existing power structure who engineered a losing national race. The message to rank-and-file members – which includes countless loyal volunteers – is that they cannot have a right to see what party chiefs have learned from an analysis compiled from conversations with insiders.

A party unwilling to critically review its mistakes will struggle to climb out of the cycle that proved so helpful to the winning candidate.
